About:
Cheryle’s artistic development is abstract, characterized by constant change and exploration. Drawing and mark making is an essential element of her vocabulary, often with architectural undertones from her background with interior architecture.
Born in south Texas, Cheryle studied fine art and education, before settling into a 35 year career in interior architecture and design in Chicago and Philadelphia. Towards the end of this career, Cheryle renewed her interest in fine art and painting working primarily in abstract soft pastel. Upon retiring to southern Andalucia in Spain in 2018, Cheryle's work evolved into oil and acrylic painting on paper and linen as her primary working media. While her representation is abstract, Cheryle is influenced and inspired by her adopted Spanish home, interpreting the landscape, music and culture both thematically and symbolically in use of warm vibrant color and application of linear elements. She often uses lines and forms to create patterns of non-repetitive repetition and rhythm, sometimes alluding to musical themes with movement and tension created by strong contrast and composition. Her work is constantly evolving, working in series and exploring thematically the compositional elements that characterize her work.
